Like many of you, I’m trying to get my social ‘fix’ online. So last week I paid a visit to Twitter. I rocked up, scanned the virtual room, spotted someone I knew (pheww!) and joined the conversation.
No! I believed her. But then again, I was only half paying attention; tidying up after a long day with one ear listening to the news.
And this is the challenge we all face.
While we’re busy doing other stuff, our brain is beavering away in the background; sifting, sorting and deciding what’s true.
We’re unconsciously processing, which means our brains are a junkyard of misinformation; undermining, depleting and skewing our thinking. And it’s impacting everything from our golf swing to our sex life.

Knowing the following won’t change your life, but it might get you thinking…
You cannot experience anything until you think it first.
Your life is the sum total of your thoughts.
Your brain does not differentiate between fantasy and reality.
When you say “I can’t”, “I should”, “this is all too hard”, your brain believes you.
Your brain doesn’t know what’s good for you and what’s not.
Just like your team or your kids, your brain requires leadership and direction. You are responsible for setting direction, standards, values and behaviour.
Your brain will believe anything you tell it.
If you tell it you’re anxious, stressed and unhappy, it will believe you.
Your brain is capable of more than you can possibly imagine but you have to loosen the grip of unconscious thinking.

Seriously, this stuff is not hard, but you need to be informed. You need to understand the basics of how you (and others) operate.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 1 states:
“All human beings are born free and equal…. and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”
We should but we don’t, because no one has taught us how.
