Then Everything Changes

You’re never upset for the reason you think you are, until you delve into your upset to find out what’s really going on.  Then everything changes. Which is exactly what Lorna and I do in the latest episode of The Change Room.

This episode and article are inextricably linked and come with a word of warning … it’s personal.

My colleague and friend Monica Brewer was told she has just weeks to live. In telling me she adds. “how do they know, I’ll be ready when I’m ready”. Total Monica! She was diagnosed with cancer just 8 months ago. She passed away on 17th September – she was obviously ready.

I read somewhere, that who we are, our real ‘being’ only shows up when we face our biggest, toughest, dirtiest challenges but I’m not sure I agree.  I think our real ‘being’ is always there and it’s our audience (friends, family, community) who finally get to see us as the ALL of who we are.

My son Max is a musician. The other day we were talking about career and relationships.  He said “Mum, I’m so focused on my music, it’s like all I can see is the red ball, all I want to see is the red ball and everything else is a distraction”.

Life is like that. We’re so focused on our “red ball’, whatever that is – business, family, career, financial success – that we miss seeing the exquisite whole of beings.

So, while this is in honour of Monica, I hope it will inspire each of us to look around and notice the whole of our beings and perhaps take the time to openly, generously and loudly honour all of them.

Mother, sister, daughter, colleague, friend, champion, mentor and businesswoman, Ms Mon, I thank you for ALL of you, the exquisite WHOLE of your being and acknowledge and honour all that you have given, achieved, delivered and provided.

The past few weeks you’ve been there for your family and closest friends but you want to know your community has been there with you.  We see, love and honour the whole of you.

To love, life and whatever comes next.

Suzy and ALL of your community.
